The quintessentially Durban diva, Melanie Roberts, will be performing her first ever solo show at Durban’s quirky Rhumbelow theatre between Friday July 15 and Sunday July 17.

Entitled “All of Me”, the show will showcase the deep and rich voice for which Melanie has become known during her 33 year long career in theatre and music. She will be accompanied, on piano, by Shemual Mahabeer and will wear beautiful gowns created by one of the doyennes of Durban design,  Karen Monk Klijnstra.

During three decade plus career, Melanie has performed in four countries, in 200 hundred public shows and in over 400 corporate shows, earning a spot in the Durban all of fame (if there was such a thing!)

She says that, encouraged by friends and audience members, she eventually decided that she might have enough to give a show worth hearing!

“It’s only taken 33 years! But, with the superb accompaniment of a versatile and brilliant pianist such as Shemual and his ability to embrace so many different styles of music and with my somewhat unusual voice range, I am hoping it will be a cracker of a show.”

The show features a kaleidoscope of songs from the 40’s to now, combined with the cabaret and musical theatre songs for which Melanie has become well known.

It covers an array of styles from pop to swing, jazz to ballads…..all woven together with Melanie’s irreverent wit, conversations with the audience and anecdotes from her colourful showbiz career.

Audiences can expect to hear Elton John, Billy Joel, Elvis, Ed Sheeran, Gloria Gaynor, Turner, Bruno Mars, George Gershwin, Sting, Carpenters, Ella Fitzgerald, Carole King, James Brown, Cole Porter, Beatles….and much more.

In Melanie’s own words – “It’s “All of me” out there on stage giving all to you with dollops of passion and laughs”.
